Granite Shoals, Texas police received a call about an at-large Pitbull on January 26. Blaze, a two-year old family pet, escaped his home and was reported running into neighbor’s yards.

When police arrived on the scene, Blaze began barking and would not respond to commands. Around this time the dog’s owner called him back into the house, but he soon slipped out of his collar and escaped yet again.

Shortly thereafter, the police officer used his taser on the dog several times. It is at this point that the officer shot Blaze until he was no longer responsive, according to reports.

The officer has been cleared of any wrong-doing as the department believes his actions were justified.

The Daily Trib quoted, “The Granite Shoals Police Department considers this an unfortunate but avoidable situation had the owners of the animal complied with city ordinances by properly restraining and confining the dog before it became a threat to the safety of the public and a police officer.”
