The Department of Defense  has awarded a major contract to General Atomics.  According to the company’s press release, GA has been tapped to “develop and supply advanced, high energy density capacitors for integration into a non-lethal Pre-Emplaced Vehicle Stopper (PEVS) system for use in force protection and vehicle checkpoint operations.”

The device uses electrical impulses to disable a car when it drives over the unit, stopping the car in its tracks without harming the passengers.
