Update: House Approves Bill for Non-Lethal Weapons on Arizona Campuses

The proposed bill (HB 2172) to allow non-lethal weapons on college campuses has passed in Arizona, meaning existing regulations for weapons on campus will be overridden.

Those criticizing the bill say that the term non-lethal is not specific enough in terms of what is acceptable and what is not.

Rep. Travis Grantham was quoted in the Arizona Daily Sun saying, “It’s not a gun, it’s not a huge knife, it’s not a sword…It’s pretty clear what’s lethal and what’s non-lethal”.

Executive Director of the Arizona Police Officers Association claimed the “bad guys” might be less likely to act if they think their potential targets have any sort of weapon on them.
