Virginia Beach Police To Finally Receive Body Cameras
News March 8, 2018, Comments Off 0Virginia Beach Police will finally receive body cameras almost two years into a four year program whose goal was to equip more than 450 with them. They are the only police force in the area without this technology.
Police Chief Jim Cervera said, “There was no mandate to put body cameras out,” said Cervera, adding he doesn’t feel behind. “Police departments across the country have been wrestling with what is the best technology? What is the best policy? … When should the camera be turned on? When should it be turned off?”
The camera will start recording as soon as an officer’s gun leaves their holster. Although there are still some policies that police are working through, the program itself has been labeled “95 percent complete”.
